Jerry Fenning
FJRP Chair
I first became involved with Jewish Renewal in Poland (FJRP) in 2010 by leading a multi-year effort for my home synagogue, Temple Beth Israel, Pomona California, to send more than 1,000 Jewish-themed books to Poland. I have continued my participation in various meaningful activities in supporting renewal of liberal-reform Jewish life in Poland such as:
- Organizing cultural and educational programs.
- Visiting Poland on two occasions, the first being a tour guided by Rabbi Beliak.
- Maintaining membership of the board of directors and am current Chair.
My professional life consisted of obtaining two master’s degrees in psychology and school counseling to become a rehabilitation counselor for an adult school program that provided sheltered work for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I also worked in the real estate field on a part-time basis by selling or financing homes.
Involvement in FJRP has enriched my life and has provided opportunities as well as challenges in overcoming the effects of the Holocaust in Poland, the former heartland of European Jewry. Significant possibilities exist for expanding liberal/reform Judaism that meets the needs of people searching for a personal religious connection that enhances their lives.
